Are there still COVID-19 protocols in place?
We have returned to in-person sessions, while continuing to offer video and telephone sessions as well. Some of the therapists, for personal reasons, wear a mask and ask their clients to do the same. Others are comfortable meeting without a mask but will wear one if the client prefers it. If a client has any symptoms, even if they have not tested positive, we ask that they notify us to change their in-person session to video or telephone or reschedule their appointment. While this may seem unnecessary to some, we need to consider that we are in a small area for an extended period of time and it’s very easy to pass on a virus of any sort.
What are your credentials?
We have both Registered Psychotherapists with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario and Registered Social Workers with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. As such, we are classified as Registered Health Care Professionals. We all have Masters level degrees from recognized universities.
What is your fee?
The fee is $160 for individual sessions and $175 for family or couple’s sessions. If you are meeting with a Registered Psychotherapist, their profession is not HST exempt and they are required to charge HST. If you are meeting with a Registered Social Worker, they are exempt and HST will not be charged. Payment is by debit, e-transfer, cheque or cash (please note that we may not be able to provide change. A credit will be applied to your account if change is required and not available). We do not take credit card payments.
Are your services covered by insurance?
Every plan is different, so the client needs to check with the provider. They can require various credentials, so it’s important to verify the specific plan requirements. We have both Registered Psychotherapists and Registered Social Workers in the practice. We do not have Psychologists.
If services are covered, do you direct bill the insurance company?
Clients pay per session and then submit to the company for reimbursement.
How long is a session?
A session is 50 minutes of counselling and 10 minutes for administration such as setting the next appointment, exchanging the fee and writing a few notes. At times a client requests a longer appointment. When this is the case, the fee is adjusted accordingly.
How often will we need to attend?
When people first begin counseling we suggest that they come once a week or once every other week for the first few sessions in order to establish the therapeutic relationship as well as to get the counselling progressing. We then move it to every other week (if the client is coming weekly) or every third week. However, if the client wishes to extend the time between sessions, we can also do that.
What if I don’t feel that there’s a good connection with my therapist?
If for any reason a client feels that the therapist they are seeing isn’t a good fit for them we ask that they let us know. We’ll be happy to explore the reasons and see who might be a better therapist for them within the practice. If the client feels they would like to see someone outside of our services we’ll explore that and make recommendations to professionals in the community.
How long will I need to attend?
It’s really impossible to estimate up front. However, we can agree to work together for a number of sessions and then evaluate if that’s helpful.
